Creating a personal style is an essential part of self-expression, and fashion is one of the most powerful ways to communicate your individuality. It can make a strong impression at a job interview, or simply inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. However, it’s important to understand what makes style, so you can use it effectively and avoid mistakes that can detract from your appearance or your message.
In literature, the style of a work is its tone, voice, and diction. These aspects are what distinguishes a writer’s work from the works of other writers. For example, the tone of a novel or piece of poetry can be objective, subjective, intimate, or serious. The voice is the personality portrayed in the writing, and the diction is the vocabulary used to convey this personality. For example, a novel or poem written in the style of Ernest Hemingway is typically more direct and simple than a novel or poem written in the style Emily Dickinson or e.e. cummings.
A writer’s style can be changed, and some writers develop signature styles that they employ throughout their writing. This can include anything from the way they punctuate to the rhythm of their words. Often, these techniques are subtle and may not even be noticeable to the reader, but they can still contribute to the overall tone of the work and influence how the story is received by the audience.
Style is also an aspect of a person’s appearance, and it can be as easy or as difficult to change. For example, a person who wears a lot of jewelry or makeup might decide to simplify their look, but this can be a difficult task to accomplish. A person’s style can also be affected by the culture of a country, and a foreigner’s attempt to fit in with a local community may involve adopting certain styles as well.
When answering the question, “What makes you unique?” it’s important to remain honest and not stretch the truth. Trying to lie about what sets you apart from other candidates could backfire and damage your chances of landing the job. Instead, focus on highlighting your strengths in a way that fits the company’s values and working style.
