Fashion – A Dynamic Process

When it comes to fashion there is no denying that there is a huge amount of changes and trends. This constant change, over time, can often be quite overwhelming for the young. In order to navigate these changing times, fashion schools have been created to help students learn the many different aspects of fashion. The courses offered are specifically designed to teach students the many aspects of fashion that are so very necessary for today’s style conscious society. A student looking to enroll in a fashion design program should be aware of the different areas of fashion that they will be covering during their studies.

Fashion is a cultural and social form of autonomy and self- expression in a certain context and at a certain time, with certain people, and with certain clothing, footwear, accessories, cosmetics, hairstyles, and body structure. The word itself indicates a look regarded as what is fashionable at the time of its creation. This is why fashions and styles change and evolve throughout the history of fashion. Fashions and fads seem to pop up and disappear all the time, sometimes even before the fad has completely disappeared from the culture.

Fashions and trends are not always considered to be in conflict with one another. For instance, fashions worn by upper class women may cause lower class women to feel uncomfortable due to the fact that these fashions were created for upper class women and the lower class women did not know any better. However, this does not mean that there are no struggles between the two groups when it comes to fashion. On the contrary, fashions and trends can actually be a symbol of social justice. A woman walking around with a pink fur coat, for example, can easily be seen as a representative of domesticity while a woman walking with full sentences across her body can be considered to represent rebelliousness.

Social issues aside, fashion is often a struggle between styles. Many people argue that certain styles are more “in” than others, and because of these arguments there are many styles that are never worn or are worn poorly. While women are expected to conform to a very strict dress code, especially when they are expected to enter the workforce, women’s clothing can still sometimes become a point of social contention. Men are also expected to follow a very specific dress code, but men are usually allowed to be more creative with their fashion style as well.

There are many debates as to what really makes a style stylish. Some fashion experts believe that a style is stylish if it makes a person feel good about themselves and their appearance. High fashion, as it is often referred to, is an example of this theory. High fashion involves dresses that are very elegant and expensive that are often only worn by the super rich or worn only by the chosen few. Women’s clothing styles are often high fashion as well, but this is because women have traditionally been expected to be elegant and beautiful.

Fashion is a dynamic process that changes constantly, and designers have to keep up with changing fashions to make their designs as trendy as possible. Designers like to change the styles of their garments on a regular basis, which allows them to create new trends and keep customers interested. The old trends are simply put back in the closet and fashion experts try to figure out how to make the old styles trend-worthy again.
